Botswana, a land of beauty and unspoiled wilderness in the heart of southern Africa, is one of the last remaining safari destinations in Africa. It is a true treasure for tourists wanting a unique and diverse slice of unspoiled Africa. Top attractions include the lush green Okavango Delta to the north, where the Okavango River flows in from Namibia and soaks into the sands. It is easily accessed via Maun, the tourist capital of Botswana. The Okavango Delta and Chobe River provide a year-round water supply and all southern African mammal species are present in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve and Chobe National Park. Starting in the south the semi-arid expanse of the Kalahari's sandy valleys cover 84% of Botswana and offers a wealth of wildlife and breathtaking landscapes, as do the incredible Makgadikgadi and Nxai salt pans, where herds of wildebeest, zebra and other mammals migrate annually. Almost 20% of Botswana is protected as national park or wildlife reserve areas. The national road network between main centres are tarred and in first class condition, but many of the access tracks that lead to the parks and reserves, and those within the protected areas, are rough and sandy, requiring the use of a 4x4 vehicle. Botswana enjoys a high standard of economic stability, education and health care.
