Coffee Bay is situated along the Eastern Cape's coastline, north of the city of East London, in the heart of the spectacular Wild Coast. It is one of the most beautiful spots in South Africa. The small community of Coffee Bay is not much more than some huts, a trading store, a camping site and a hotel, but the coast is stunning and the beach untouched between the green rolling hills and the sea. Coffee Bay offers excellent fishing and spectacular walks through a coastal bush teeming with bird life. The most distinctive feature here is the geological marvel known as the Hole in the Wall, a massive, detached cliff with an arched opening through which the rolling waves thunder. It is a stunning 90 minutes walk (or an hour's drive - there is no coastal road) along the coast from Coffee Bay. Various hiking trails - like the famous Wild Coast Hiking Trail - abound around the area. Coffee Bay is accessible by tarred road from the N2 and is just the place if you are looking for a secluded spot to stay, with activities like swimming, hiking, fishing, surfing, spear-fishing, scuba diving and horse riding. Nearby attractions include the Hluleka Nature Reserve, between Coffee Bay and Port St Johns.
