If you’re up for it to experience the real, wild Africa, Zambia is the diamond in the rough you've been looking for. It is the 39th largest country in the world (after Chile) and slightly larger than Texas in the North America. The country boasts some of the continent’s best wildlife parks, and shares (with Zimbabwe) some of the Africa’s major attractions: the Victoria Falls in southwestern Zambia, Lake Kariba, the Lower Zambezi National Park in the southeast and the mighty Zambezi River, a haven for fisherman from all over hoping to land a tigerfish or the rare giant vundu. It also offers an unsurpassed river rafting experience for the adventurous traveler. In total there are 18 waterfalls in Zambia, but the Vic Falls (also referred to as ‘the Smoke that Thunders’) is a must see. Columns of spray can be seen from miles away (remember to bring a raincoat!) as 546 million cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge. Explore this majestic site via micro-light airplane, numerous hiking trails and lookout-points or overcome your fear of heights and bungee jump from the bridge across the river. Lake Tanganyika in the Great Rift Valley is also something to behold. It is the longest fresh water lake in the world and the second deepest (1433 metres) after lake Baikal in Russia.
