Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash will return to South Africa on the Masters of Rock Tour at the Coca-Cola Dome Johannesburg on May 28, ICC Durban Arena on May 30, and at the Grand Arena, Grandwest and Entertainment World, Cape Town on June 1.
Since forming in 1968, Deep Purple have produced some rock's most defining moments. The albums In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head and Made in Japan albums made them one of the biggest acts in the world.
More recently, the band’s Rapture of the Deep, and live tour-de-force Montreux 2006, further underscored their reputation as pioneers of adventurous modern-classic rock music.
Uriah Heep's by-the-books progressive rock made the British band one of the most popular hard rock groups of the early '70s, a legacy that they continue to enjoy to the present day. Formed by vocalist David Byron and guitarist Mick Box in the late '60s, the group went through an astonishing number of members over the next three decades — nearly 30 different musicians passed through the band over the years.
Uriah Heep released their debut album Very ‘Eavy,..Very ‘Umble in 1970 and followed this with a string of critically acclaimed records including Look at Yourself, The Magician's Birthday, Salisbury and Demons and Wizards.
Formed in 1969, Wishbone Ash are considered to be one of the major innovators of the harmony twin lead guitar format. The band struck gold in 1972 with Argus, which was voted by the readers of Sounds magazine as the "Best Rock Album of the Year”, and Top British Album 1972 by Melody Maker magazine.
Guitarist Andy Powell is listed in “The Ten Most Important Guitarists In Rock History" (Traffic magazine 1989), and in the "Top 20 Guitarists Of All Time" (Rolling Stone magazine).
