The town of Gansbaai (translated as Goose Bay) is the Great White shark capital of the world. This is where you'll meet these fierce giants eye to eye. Shark cage diving is the major tourist attraction here. The channel between Dyer Island and Geyser rock – a short baot cruise from Gansbaai – is popularly referred to as Shark Alley. Dyer Island is known as one of only two unique areas in the world where the chances of viewing the Great White become exceptionally high. For extreme sports and adrenaline junkies, this is the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with the Great Whites – no diving certificate is needed to venture into the cage. For the not so adventurous, incredible sightings of the sharks can be viewed from the comfort of the boat. Other wildlife species such as Cape Fur Seals, Cape Gannets, Cape Cormorants and Jackass penguins can be sighted here. It is also a perfect place for whale watching.
